From Mali, West Africa to America, Troupe Baden'ya (meaning "we are all
family" in Bambara) has been sharing their culture with audiences all over
the USA since 2002. As members of the National Ballet of Mali and other top
troupes and ballets in Bamako, these artists established themselves and
travelled all over Europe, Asia and America to end up here in the USA. They
have all made successful individual careers and many can be found on this
site (Moussa Traore, Mohamed Joh Camara). They reunited in 2002 for
performances and workshops in Providence, RI. Since that time, they have
performed in Massachusetts, New York and Colorado at venues including the
Newport Folk Festival and community theaters. Audiences have been jumping
out of their seats at sold out shows to see, hear and experience a wide
range of Malian culture as conveyed on the stage under the artistic
direction of Seydou Coulibaly.
Their concert recording is available exclusively here at Calabash Music.
